
MVA w/ Entrapemnt Diamond Ave and Clouds Blvd. December 29, 2009. Tones for MVA unknown injuries, SR 940 at Hazle Springs. Turned to Clouds Blvd and Diamond Ave wit entrapment. Rescue 101, Squad 109 and Engine 102 arrived to find two car head on with one pinned in passenger seat. 2 refusals and 2 injuried at scene. Extrication took 16 minutes. Commerical Structre Fire - ADM December 14, 2009. At approximately 2027 Hazle Twp Fire, Harwood Fire, Medic 11were dispatched to 400 Stony Creek Rd - ADM for a commercial structure fire in a coco elevator (takes product from the 1st floor to the 5th floor in scoops). Units were advised of a working fire in the elevator. Fire extinguished by plant personnel - FD checked for extension then ventilated the large manu factoring facility. Tower 107 crews to the roof. E102 and E103 stood by at the plugs with E192. T106, Tower 105, T191, Squad 109, Sheppton Eng 9-10 staged. R101 with Capt 104 Bridge was command.MVA, I-81, Entrapment November 22, 2009. At approximately 1530 Hazle Twp Fire and Medic 11 were dispatched to I-81 mm 143.1 Northbound for a rollover with entrapment. R-101 and E-102 responded. C-102 arrived and confirmed entrapment. R-101 arrived and stabilized the car. Crews utilized the 40" transformers and the O-cutter to remove the diver side door. E-102 pulled a 1.75" hand line for fire protection. The patient was removed in 5 Minutes and turned over to Medic 11 who transported to GWV Trauma Center. PSP released all fire units. Structure Fire, Ridge Ave. November 21, 2009. West Hazleton Fire and EMS, Hazle Twp Fire, and Medic 11 were sent to 227Ridge Ave., West Hazleton for a structure fire. West Hazleton PD arrived on scene to confirm a working structure fire. West Hazleton Fire arrived on scene and started fire attack. E-102 arrived and laid 400' of 5" and secured there own water supply to the rear of the building. They deployed the blitz fire and knocked down exterior fire. Then pulled 2 - 1.75" hand lines and conducted an interior attack. Rescue 101 and Tower 105 operated and assisted with an interior attack. The structure fire went to a 3rd alarm with 2 homes involved. Hazle Twp. operated for approximately 4 hours before being released by command. MVA, 1119 North Church St. October 30, 2009. While sitting in station crews were alerted by a firefighter in the comm. room there was a MVA in front of the building. Station 10 then alerted Luzerne County to activate the pagers that there was a 2 Car MVA in front of the building, one car into Franz Janitorial and Supply and the other sitting on the pad of the firehouse. Rescue 101 was able to make it out of the firehouse and the crew found one male entrapped in a sedan that was into a building, the crew went to work using 40" Transformers to free the patient. Medic 26 arrived on the scene and took over ems command calling several BLS and AlS unit to the scene for multiple patients that needed treatment. Once the patient was extricated from the sedan and packaged, the rescue crew then assisted medic 26 with packaged, treating, and moving the other patients into our firehouse to get them out of the weather while waiting for the arrival of other ems units. After all patients were removed crews remained on scene and assisted the owner of Franz with securing the building. All units then returned to service MVA Rollover w/ Ejection October 14, 2009. At approximately 1425 Hazle Twp Fire and APTS Medic 11 were dispatched to 924 in the area of I-81 for a MVA rollover with entrapment and fire. R-101 and E-102 responded immediately after dispatch. Units arrived to find a single vehicle accident, off the road in the woods on fire. E-102 pulled a 1.75in hand line and controlled the fire. R-101 crew started to assist Medic 11. Three patients were in the woods. Two were ejected and one was pulled out by bystanders when the car caught on fire. Aero Medical was requested for all three patients. An LZ was established at the Harwood Ball Field. E-192 landed Medevac and Pennstar. Second LZ at Commerce Drive was handled by E-103 for a third helicopter. Once all patients were transported, traffic was controlled and 924 was shut down for PSP R&I. Three Car MVA w/ Entrapment October 7,2009. Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue along with Medic 11 were dispatched to the Airport Beltway and the rear entrance to the Laurel Mall for a mva. C-102 was first to arrive and advised units there was three cars invloved with one patient still in a suv. C-101, R-101 and Sq-109 arrived on scene. C-102 called entrapment and crews went to work. One of the cars was up against the driver's side of the suv with that driver being entraped. Crews used a come-along attatched to the rescue to pull the car away from the suv and the Transformers (40") jaws to take off the driver's door on the suv. Access was made to the patient with 10 mins from the arrival of the rescue. Once the vehicles were removed all units returned to service. MVA w/ Entrapment October 5, 2009 Hazle Twp. Fire & Rescue along with Medic 11 were dispatched to 23rd St. and Church St. for a 2 car MVA with possible entrapment. Rescue 101 w/ Lt. 107 and Engine 102 w/Capt. 104 went responding and were advised by county that HPD was on scene with one patient confined with a arm injury. Units arrived on the scene to find one car in the turning lane the other on 23rd St. t-bone style collision one pt. confined to the vehicle in the turning lane. Crews used the 40" inch Transformers to pop the passenger door and gain access to the patient and assisted medic 11 crew with packaging and removing the patient from the vehicle. Crews then broke down all equipment and returned to service. MVA I81 mm 144.3 October 5, 2009 Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue along with West Hazleton Fire & EMS & Medic 11 APTS was dispatched to MM 144.3 I81 Northbound for MVA rollover with ejection. Luzerne County 911 dispatched both department due to numerous MM posting received. West Hazleton Fire & Ems units arrived to find female motorist performing CPR. Medic 11 & Hazle Twp units arrived. Medical command advised and CPR was stopped to due severity of injuries. Assisting was multiple PSP units & Luzerne County Coroner. MVA w/ Entrapment October 4, 2009. Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue along with Medic 11 were dispatched at 10:38 to I-81 Southbound for a 2 vehicle mva on car on it's side. R-101 w/C-102 and E-103 w/C-101 responded. County advised units that there was entrapment in the vehicle on it's side. E-103 arrived to find both vehicles in the median one suv on it's driver's side down a small embankment with the driver entrapped. R-101 arrived and crews began to stabilize the vehicle with high lift jacks and cribbing. Crews then used the 40" Transformers (jaws), (O) cutters, and multiple saws-alls. The windshield was removed and the roof was flapped down. Total extrication time was 20 minutes. Once the patient was removed from the suv, crews started to breakdown the equipment. Crews returned to service within an hour. MVA / Rollover w/ Entrapment September 19, 2009. Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue along with Medic 11 were dispatched to Rt. 940 in the area of Zola's Lampost for a one vehicle rollover. R-101 and Sq-109 responded. Units arrived on scene near American Transmission to find two vehicles one in the roadway and the other on its side against a large straight box truck. Crews assessed the scene and found that the patient in the car on the roadway was entrapped. The crews started to crib and go to work extracating. The transformers (40") spreaders were used to pull down the drivers door and the (O) Cutters used to cut the nader bolt. Access was made to the patient within 5 mins. of extracting for awaiting EMS. The patient from the vehicle on its side was self-extracated prior to fd arrival. Crews assisted with loading the patients and provided lighting for PSP. Units cleared the scene within an hour. Structure Fire, North St. September 7, 2009, 8:14pm Luzerne County 911 dispatched Hazle Twp Fire & West Hazleton fire along with Medic 11 APTS to kitchen fire at 600 ½ North Street in the Green Ridge section of Hazle Township. Additional reports indicated that disabled gentleman in 602 address with smoke filling. Volunteers from Hazle Twp quickly removed him in a wheelchair from the residence. Engine 242 along with Chief 241 (Command 241) arrived to send crews for search & rescue. However, initial personnel cleared and accounted for all occupants. Engine 242 laid nearly 800 ft. LDH from Green forest Road & North St to the front of the scene. Engine 102 laid 600 ft LDH from Winters & Ksanznak streets to rear of the residence with Engine 241 pumping the hydrant. Tower 107 placed side B of the structure and ventilated. Ladder 244 took AB corner and also ventilated. Tanker 106, Rescue 101, Squad 109, Utility 10 & 108 provided manpower and equipment. Multiple hand lines were pulled and fire quickly extinguished with extensive overhaul. Chief 101 IC, Chief 102 interior ops, Chief 243 side C Exterior ops, Lt 106 side A Exterior ops with multiple safety officers. Two tenants of the second floor apartment (fire origin) were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital with inhalation injuries. APTS medic 11, Tech Transport, West Hazleton EMS, Red Cross, McNealis Home Care, PPL & PSP fire marshal assisted at the scene. Freeland Fire Dept E54 & L57 staged at Hazle Twp Station One & McAdoo Engine 4915 & Quint 4922 staged at West Hazleton Fire Station. Hazleton City Fire Dept Engine 4 along with Chief 2 setup a Landing Zone at the Height Middle School for Penn Star. MedEvac landed at HGH Helipad. One firefighter was transported to HGH for Knee injury. MVA Patchtown Rd. and Sr 940 August 5, 2009 The Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue & Medic 11 APTS dispatched to area of patchtown road & Sr 940 for One car mva into tree. Rescue 101 arrived to find one male driver escaped death in violent crash through a guard rail thru a yard then striking a large tree approximately 150 feet from the roadway. Patient flown to trauma center by Medevac 4 from the Hazleton Airport. Units remained on scene do to gasoline leaking from the vehicle. Zeniers Towing service removed the vehicle. PSP assisted at the scene. Crews Battle Large Brush Fire In Humbolt Ind. Park At 1322Hrs Hazle Twp & Harwood Fire were dispatched to North Park Rd in Humbolt Industrial park for a brush fire. Multiple calls were received, reporting a large fire. Approximately 20 companies assisted with man power and brush trucks, along with DCNR air and ground units. At times the smoke interrupted the traffic on I-81. Pin in Humbolt Ind. Park At 17:50 hrs Hazle Twp & APTS M-11 were dispatched to Oak Ridge Rd. for MVA with possible entrapment. Units arrived to find a passenger car versus a tractor trailer with the driver of the car entrapped. The tractor trailer had lost his rear trailer wheels due to impact. Pt was extricated, and flown from the scene by MedEvac 4. Assist Freeland with 2nd Working Fire Within the Week At 04:20 hrs Hazle Twp rescue along with Freeland FD and other mutual aid units responded to a working house fire in the 1100 block of Center St in Freeland. Multiple calls received and a 2 1/2 story single family dwelling was found to be fully involved and extending to the neighboring home. Fire was knocked down using numerous master streams and extensive overhaul was needed to the exposed side. MVA w/ Entrapment Sheppton Rt 924 Thursday April 23, 2009. 0222 AM Luzerne County 911 dispatched Hazle Twp Rescue, Engine, Medic 11, and Sheppton Fire to a MVA with Entrapment. Rescue arrived on scene to find two vehicles with one person trapped in each vehicle. Sheppton Fire was already on scene extracting. Rescues crew was split up between the two vehicles. The one vehicle was a white cargo van. Patient was entrapped from all the materials in the the van pinning him into the steering wheel. Crews utilized a come-a-long to pull the cargo off the entrapped patient. Full access was then made to the patient. Simple disentangling was used from that point forward to remove the patient from the vehicle. The other vehicle was an SUV. Access was made to the patient of the SUV by removing the driver side door and rolling the dash with the transformers. As the patients were being removed from the vehicle the the dispatch was sent out for the structure fire in West Hazleton. Multiple Vehicle Fire with Minor Extension to Home Saturday February 28, 2009. 1130AM Luzerne County 911 dispatched Hazle Twp & Medic 11 APTS to a vehicle fire close to a structure. Chief 101 arrived to find second passenger vehicle involved and residential exposure within feet of the fire. Chief 101 advised Luzerne County to upgrade box to a Structure Box. This dispatched Hazle Twp for a full response and West Hazleton Engine. Engine 102 laid three hundred feet of LDH from North St.& Green Forest Lane to Grapevine Lane & Red Oak Ct. Engine 103 laid eight hundred feet from Winters Ave & Grapevine Lane to same vicinity. Engine 102 stretched a one hundred feet of a 3” dead lay up the court to the fire scene and attached a high rise pack for fire attack. West Hazleton Engine quickly sent a crew equipped with a TIC into the structure to check for extent ion. No extent ion was found. Minor damage to the cosmetics to the exterior and a window failed from heat and water. Tower, rescue & squad companies staged. Firefighters overhauled for one hour at the scene. Units on the box: Engine 102, Engine 103, Tower 105, Rescue 101, Squad 109 & Utility 10. West Hazleton Engine 241 West Hazleton Police Dept APTS BLS & Medic 11 November Hazle Twp Chief – Command Hazle Twp Assistant Chief - Operation/ Safety West Hazleton Chief – Interior forward command. FIRST PIN OF 2009, ROUTE 93 AND DESSEN DR. Monday January 12, 2009. At 15:42, units dispatched to Route 93 and Dessen Dr, in the area of Radio Shack, for a motor vehicle crash with unknown injuries. While enroute, Rescue advised by Luzerne County 911, that reports from the scene reported a patient still in the vehicle. Rescue arrived to find an SUV head on vs. a pick up truck with 1 female pinned. 40” transformers were placed in service, and the front driver side door was removed. Patient was placed in the care of EMS, and all fire and rescue units cleared from the scene within 30 minutes. 1 PINNED I-81 SOUTH AT MM 141 Saturday, December 20, 2008. Just before 10:30 Sta. 10 along with APTS dispatched to Interstate 81 at MM 141 for a motor vehicle crash with unknown injuries. Engine 103 w/ C102 (Mumie) first to arrive and reported a vehicle with one entrapped. Engine 103 placed the 40” transformers into service and removed a door on the vehicle, gaining access to the patient. Upon arrival of EMS, patient was placed in EMS care and transported to the HGH Helipad to an awaiting Medevac helicopter. Hazle Twp units operated for approximately 30 minutes before being released by PSP. WINTER STORM KEEPS STA. 10 BUSY Friday December 19, 2008. The busy day began just after 09:30, when Hazle Twp crews along with APTS alerted to Route 309 in the area of the Pardeesville Road for a motor vehicle crash with reported entrapment. Rescue arrived to find a 2 vehicle crash with one occupant entrapped. Crews stabilized the vehicle and placed the 40” transformers into service, removing the passenger side door of the Subaru Sedan. Female patient was removed and placed into EMS care and transported to HGH. Crews operated for approximately 20 minutes before being released by C103 (Marsicano). At 10:10, Rescue 101 requested to assist McAdoo Fire on the Mile Hill Rd. for a motor vehicle crash w/ Hazmat. While responding crews alerted to another crash, this time to Interstate 81 Southbound at MM 144. Rescue along with Engine 103 and Squad 109 diverted. Engine 103 w/ C102 (Mumie) arrived first to find (-) entrapment, with a small fuel spill. Rescue was cancelled and continued on to the Mile Hill incident. While responding to the Mile Hill incident, Rescue 101 came upon a pedestrian struck by a tractor trailer at MM 137.8 in Kline Twp. Crews began patient care and packaging until APTS Medic 11 arrived. Crews cleared within about 15 minutes and continued on to the Mile Hill. Crews at MM 144 tended to the fuel spill and assisted PSP with traffic. APTS Medic 11 transported 1 patient o HGH. Crews cleared within 45 minutes. Rescue arrived on the Mile Hill and assisted McAdoo Engine 49-15 with containing a fuel spill from a saddle tank of a tractor trailer. Hazle units assisted for approximately 15 minutes before being released by McAdoo command. Throughout the days crews tended to several other incidents on Interstate 81 between MM 139 and 144, and Route 924. Throughout the duration of the storm, both of the Hazle Twp firehouses were staffed with anywhere between 10 and 20 personnel at any given time. MCI MVA Car vs. School Bus w/ Entrapment Friday December 12, 2008. Dispatch by 911 to Jeddo Boro Rd and SR 940 for an MVA. Additional reports indicated a school bus with 20 students vs. car with two entrapped. Chief 101 called for a Level 1 mass casualty response with Valley Regional's mass casualty trailer and additional units from APTS. Capt 105 quickly arrived on scene and confirmed the additional reports. Capt 105 assumed Ops command. Rescue and Squad companies arrived and focused on extrication. Engine 103 and assisted with the extrication. Multiple EMS units focused on the children and their injuries. The two entrapped were taken to HGH to be stabilized then flown out to Lehigh Valley. Two children were taken via ALS to Geisinger WV, four children were taken via BLS to HGH, and 18 children were taken via HASD bus w/ ems to HGH for evaluation. Bus driver was taken to HGH for treatment later. HASD officials were on scene within minutes. HGH activated its mass causality policy. Freeland Police and Freeland Road Dept. provided traffic control on the Freeland side at Windy Hill Rd. Hazle Twp Road Dept quickly cindered all roads in the area.
Unknown Type Fire Rear of Econoco Monday December 8, 2008. Dispatched by 911 to the rear of Econoco on Oak Ridge Rd. for an unknown type fire. Upon investigation, units found a cabin and a tag along camper burned to the ground. Harwood's brush truck was specially called to assist due to the remote location and limited accessibility. Fire was extinguished with a 1.75" hand line from the brush truck. Crews also encountered numerous venting propane tanks. 449 W 24TH ST WORKING RESIDENTIAL FIRE Tuesday December 2, 2008. Units alerted at 16:48 to the area of W 24th St. and Locust St. for a reported structure fire. FF Segaria first to arrive and report a single story residential with fire showing on the A-D corner. Engine 102 arrived and stretched a 600' 5" supply line from 23rd and Locust. Crews stretched (1) 1.75" handlineto the fire room, and a second 1.75" handline to the exterior on the D side. Crews had the fire controlled within 15 minutes of arrival. Crews conducted extensive overhaul and ventilated. The PSP Fire Marshal was contacted and on the scene shortly thereafter. Crews operated for approximately an hour and a half before being released by command. The State Police Fire Marshal is investigating. While Sta. 10 operated, Sta. 5(Freeland) stood by with the Engine and Truck in Station 1. The Freeland Crews along with C102(Mumie) took in a crash on N Church St. in the area of the airport. STATION 10 EXTRICATES 1 AIRPORT RD AND HESS RD Tuesday December 2, 2008. Just after 11:30 Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue alerted to the Airport Rd. in the area of McCarthy Tire for a motor vehicle crash with unknown injuries. While responding crews advised of multiple calls received reporting a head on collision with apparent injuries. Rescue 101 w/ C103(Marsicano) arrived to find a 3 vehicle crash with 3 injuries, and 1 pinned. Rescue crew stablilized the vehicle and began extrication. Crews placed the 40" transformers into service and removed the drivers door. Crews then removed the rear driver side door, and removed the (B) post to make the third door. Female patient was removed from the vehicle, and placed in the care of EMS. Crews controlled fluids and controlled traffic while PSP investigated the crash. 2 patients were transported via aero medical to regional trauma centers, and 1 patient was transported to HGH. Crews operated for approximately 45 minutes before being released by PSP.
MID-DAY APARTMENT FIRE Monday November 24, 2008. Hazle Twp fire along with Harwood Fire and Medic 11 were dispatched to 143 Hollars Hill for a structure fire. E-103 with C-101 arrived on scene to find smoke pushing from the roof area of the 4 unit apartment building. E-103 took fire attack with 1.75" hand line to 2nd floor. E-102 reverse laid 1400 of 5" to the hydrant for water supply. T-105 crew sent to roof for ventilation. Engine crews were sent to 1st floor; forced entry to find working fire in apartment #2. Fire quickly extinguished. Overhaul lasted one hour. E-192, R-101, T-106, S-109, and Utility 11 staged. PSP Fire Marshal, PPL, and the Red Cross were then contacted and sent to scene.
UNITS HANDLE DRIFTON ENTRAPMENT CALL Tuesday November 18, 2008. Hazle Twp Fire, Medic 11, and Freeland BLS get dispatched for a single car crash with injuries on Route 940 in the village of Drifton. Rescue Co 101 responded with a full crew followed by Engine 102. Freeland EMS Chief arrived on scene and reported a single car crash, multiple patients with one entrapped. Also, units to use caution due to hazardous road conditions from passing snow squalls. An additional Medic 11 unit and Freeland BLS unit was requested to the scene. Rescue crew stabilized the vehicle and removed the rear passenger door. Female patient was removed from the vehicle to an awaiting EMS unit. Two helicopters were requested to the Drifton Softball Complex; Freeland Engine 54 was requested to handle the LZ detail. Three total patients were flown via Medevac 4 and PennStar 5 to Lehigh Valley Hospital.
EARLY SNOW STORM Tuesday October 28, 2008. The area was hit with a snow storm bringing 13 inches of snow. Power outages, downed wires, and AFA's kept crews busy all day. Hazle Twp FD responed to 30 calls and still counting. Thankfully the new squad was ready in time to take on the heavy work load giving the rescue a break. WORKING RESIDENTIAL FIRE: 210 W GREEN ST WEST HAZLETON RESCUE CO BREAKS FROM FIRE SCENE TO TAKE IN MVA I-81 MM 141 Thursday August 21, 2008. While operating at the structure fire in West Hazleton Borough, Hazle Twp units alerted to Interstate 81 Southbound in the area of MM 141 for a vehicle rollover. Rescue 101 w/ C102(Mumie) broke from the fire scene to take in the crash. Rescue arrived to find a single vehicle, van rollover with all occupants self extricated. All fire units were released a short time after by PSP. EMS obtained 1 patient refusal. Due to the manpower shortage McAdoo Engine 49-15 was also requested out of Schuylkill Co. AFTERNOON CONTINUES, OVEN FIRE: 701 W 24TH ST Thursday August 21, 2008. As units returned to quarters and were picking up from the West Hazleton job, Luzerne County 911 struck the first due box alarm to 701 W 24th St. for the reported oven on fire. Engine 102 w/ C101(Kostician) arrived to report a fire confined to the oven with heavy smoke throughout Apt. 305. Fire was extinguished, and the oven was removed from the Apt. Crews conducted ventilation, and cleared the scene within 30 minutes. Oven Fire, Johns Mansville May 30, 2008. Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue along with Medic 11 were dispatched at 19:57 to 600 Jaycee Dr. in the Valmont Industrial Park at Johns Mansville for an automatic fire alarm. E-102w/ C-103(Marsicano) went enroute to scene when county advised the engine there was a minor fire in one of the ovens at the plant. C-103 then requested R-101 and TL-105 to respond. E-102 arrived on scene to find a one story commercial with smoke showing. E-102 dropped a supply line from the last hydrant on Jaycee Dr. and layed into the (B) side entrnace of the building. R-101 and T-106 took placement on Jaycee Dr. across from the plant. The crew from the engine and rescue pulled the 100’ 3” set-back line and a 150’ 1 ¾” high pack and entered the building. TL-105w/ Lt. 106(Zoshak) arrived and set-up on the (A-B) corner. The crew from the tower split with half going to the roof and the rest inside to assist. C-103 had command and Lt. 106 had inside command till C-101(Kostician) arrived and took over operations. Command requested an Engine and Ladder out of West Hazleton and an Engine out of Harwood to respond to scene. E-242 arrived on scene and staged behind E-102 with the crew pulling an addition line to inside the plant. L-244 took placement on the (A-D) corner and sent the crew to the roof to assist TL-105 with opening up hatches. E-192 arrived on scene to hit the hydrant just before the plant and layed into side (D). The crew from Harwood Engine pulled a high rise pack and entered the building to assist with fire extinguishment. C-103 then requested ladders from Freeland and McAdoo to the scene and an Engine from Freeland to stand-by at Hazle Twp. Station 10-1. Q-49-22 arrived on scene and took placement behind E-192 on side (D). Freeland L-57 stood-by on Jaycee Dr. and sent the crew to assist inside the plant. Interior crews had 3 handlines in operations attacking a large commercial oven. The fire was knocked down by 21:30 with overhaul and ventilation in progress. Multiple ppv fans were in-service. Crews started to break-down equipment by 22:01 with the last Hazle Twp. unit cleared the scene at 22:23.
MVA w/ Entrapment, Green Mountain Rd. May 28, 2008. Hazle Twp. R-101 was dispatched at 12:11 to Green Mt. Road in the Schuylkill County part of the Humboldt Industrial Park to assist Sheppton-Oneida Fire Dept. with a mva with entrapment. R-101 w/ C-103 (Marsicano) were advised by Luzerne County that Sheppton Engine was on scene with confirmed entrapment of a one vehicle mva on Green Mt. Road in front of Office Max. R-101 and U-10 w/C-101 (Kostician) arrived on scene and began to crib and stabilize the vehicle. The crew from Sheppton- Oneida started to gain access to the patient by means of a maverick tool. After the rescue started to pull tools, the crew from Sheppton-Oneida diverted to the landing zone near the Cando water tank. The crew from R-101 used the 40” Transformers to take the driver’s door. The (O) cutters were placed in-service in the staging area. The driver was then removed from the vehicle and placed in the care of waiting EMS. The crew from the rescue packed up the tools and returned to service available. Oven Fire, 514 White Birch Rd. May 21, 2008. Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue, Harwood Fire, and Medic 11 were dispatched at 21:17 for an automatic fire alarm at 514 White Birch Rd., The George Weston Bakery. E-102 w/ C-104, E-103 w/C-105, E-192, TL-105, and R-101 all responded shortly after dispatch. Harwood E-192 arrived on scene of a large commercial building with nothing showing from exterior, were approached by plant personnel that there was a fire inside the structure. E-192 advised county and all incoming units, then took position on the (D) side of the plant. E-103 next engine to arrive reversed layed out to a hydrant on White Birch Rd. and supplied E-192. At this time C-105 requested a 2nd alarm be put on stand-by. E-102 and R-101 took placement on side (A). E-102 stood-by at another hydrant and R-101 set up lighting. TL-105 arrived on scene and was advised by command to set up on side (D) over top of the office and send the crew to the roof. T-106 and U-108 also responded to scene with manpower. C-104 called command while C-105 took operations inside the plant. Sheppton-Oneida Fire were dispatched out of Schuylkill County after the call of a confirmed fire. Command requested an Engine and Ladder out of West Hazleton to respond directly to scene and also an Engine and Ladder out of Freeland move up to Hazle Twp. St. 10-1 to stand-by. Interior crews found the fire to be located inside 2 large commercial ovens. Crews encountered a moderate smoke condition inside and pulled a 1 ¾” line off E-192. TL-105 crew went to the roof and located two vent hatches already opened by plant personnel. Interior crews knocked down the fire within minutes and started overhaul. West Hazleton L-244 arrived on scene and set up behind TL-105 on the (A-D) corner. E-242 and C-241 arrived and took placement in the parking lot on the (D) side. Sheppton-Oneida Engine arrived on scene and stood by on White Birch Rd. The ovens were fed by a conveyer belt loaded with snack cakes which became jammed and started smoldering. Plant personnel noticed one of the belts backing up and started to clear that oven, when another belt had the same problem. The fire alarm system activated before personnel made any calls to the 911 center. Crews preformed overhaul for about an hour taking out cart fulls of burnt cakes. Multiple fans were used to try and remove smoke from the plant. The roof crew made sure the vent hatches stayed open and looked for any other hatches or doors to try and ventilate. Interior crews started to break down the fans by 22:34. Two plant employees were checked out by Medic 11. One was transported to HGH. All Hazle Twp. units returned to station available at 22:54. UNITS ON THE BOX: UNITS ON STAND-BY: E-54 CREWS MAKE QUICK WORK OF FOUR SEASONS SHED FIRE DIAMOND AVE., 1 PINNED Friday May 2, 2008. While returning from a prior call Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue along with Medic 11 alerted to Diamond Ave. in the area of Hazle Springs for a motor vehicle crash with injuries. C102(Mumie) first to arrive and report a single vehicle crash with (1) pinned. Rescue crew arrived and began to stabilization. The crew placed the 40" transformers into service and removed the driver side door. The rescue crew assisted EMS with patient packaging, and assisted PSP with traffic. The patient was transported by APTS Medic 11 to the HGH helipad to an awaiting Medevac helicopter. Hazle Twp. units operated approximately 35 minutes before being released by PSP. STATION 10 RESPONDS TO SECOND FATAL CRASH OF THE WEEK April 30, 2008. At 16:28, Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue along with APTS alerted to Stockton Mountain Rd. for a motor vehicle crash with reported injuries. While responding, units advised of additional reports of possible ejection with an unconscious patient. APTS Medic 11D first to arrive, reported a pick-up truck rollover with ejection and requested a second ALS provider, and Medevac on stand by. Rescue 101 arrived and split crews to assist EMS with patient care. Upon evaluation of the male patient, Medic 11D contacted medical command and requested a county official. Medevac was launched to the HGH helipad for the second patient. Hazle Twp. Crews assisted the county official and PSP on scene before being released at 18:05. This is the second fatal crash Station 10 has responded to this week, and the fifth fatality in Hazle Twp. since the beginning of the year. MVA- Car vs. Motorcycle April 26, 2008. Hazle Twp. along with Medic 11 was dispatched at 10:24 to I-81 mm 143 south for a reported mva, car vs. motorcycle. R-101 with C-101(Kostician), E-102, E-103 all responding to scene were advised by county there was a patient with leg lacerations and appeared to be not moving. C-101 asked county to put Harwood Fire on stand-by for a landing zone. Medic 11 arrived on scene at mm 142.5 south and reported a patient lying in the median and the southbound passing lane was blocked with the accident. C-105 arrived shortly after and confirmed one class 5 patient. A county official was then notified. R-101 first to arrive took placement in the passing lane just short of the accident. E-102 and E-103 arrived on scene and parked about 1/10th of a mile from the accident to provide traffic control. PSP was on scene handling the investigation. The county official then arrived on scene. Once the victim was removed, Hazle Twp. units started to break down the scene. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. All Hazle Twp. units returned to station available. 2 Car MVA - 1 Pinned April 23, 2008. Hazle Twp. Rescue 101 along with Medic 11 were dispatched at 17:51 to Blaine St. in McAdoo for a mva with entrapment. R-101 enroute advised by McAdoo units there was confirmed entrapment in one vehicle, a suv and the rescue would by going to work. Crews on scene did a great job with leaving room for the rescue to pull into the scene. Units from McAdoo had the vehicle cribbed and started to take the drivers door with a maverick tool. The crew from R-101 pulled off the (O)-Cutters and the transformers (40”). The (B) post and the rear door were both removed from the driver’s side. The driver’s door was popped and hyper-extended to allow access. The patient was then removed and placed into EMS care. Extraction time was less then 10 mins from the arrival of the rescue. R-101 packed up the tools and returned to station available. MVA - 1 Pinned 924 & Scotchpine Drive April 02, 2008. Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue along with Medic 11 were dispatched at 11:45 to the area of Rt. 924 and Scotch Pine Dr. for a mva with injuries. While responding R-101 was advised by county it was a car vs. tractor-trailer with heavy entrapment with diesel fuel leaking. At this time C-102 (Mumie) then requested an engine to respond. A unit from Tech-Transport arrived on scene and confirmed entrapment in the passenger vehicle. Medic 11 arrived on scene and advised county to launch Med-Evac to the Harwood Baseball Field. R-101 arrived on scene to find a 4 door passenger car with serve front and passenger side damage with the driver entrapped. The crew from the rescue used step chocks to stabilize the car the started extrication. E-102 arrived on scene, the crew from the engine pulled the front preconnect for a safety line and started to contain the fuel leak. The rescue crew removed both drivers side doors, flapped the roof over to the passenger side, and used the 40” Transformers to push the dash. Rams were set-up in staging if needed. The patient was then extricated and placed into the care of waiting EMS. Total extrication time was under 15 minutes from the time the rescue arrived on scene. Once the patient was stabilized, he was taken to the landing zone to be loaded on Med-Evac. Fire crews then turned their attention to the fuel spill. U-1011 arrived on scene with the Haz-Mat trailer. Absorbent and brooms were used to cover the diesel and to contain the leak from spreading. Hazle Twp. and County EMA were called to the scene due to there was nearly 100 gallons of diesel on the roadway. A Haz-Mat team was called into clean up the absorbent and other materials used for the spill. Once both vehicles were removed from the scene all Hazle Twp. units returned available. UNITS ON THE BOX: Rollover I-81 mm136.5 Hazle Twp. Fire/Rescue and Medic 11 from Luzerne County, along with McAdoo Fire and Ems out of Schuylkill County were dispatched at 02:00 to I-81 Northbound in the area of the county line for a mva with entrapment. R-101 went enroute and were advised by Luzerne County that the vehicle was traveling south and flipped over into the northbound lanes. Units arrived on scene to find a suv that had rolled over multiple times and landed on it’s wheels facing north in the driving lane. The crew from R-101 cribbed and stabilized the vehicle, while the crew from McAdoo E-49-15 used a maverick tool to pop the driver’s door. Once the door was opened a rapid extraction was preformed due to the deteriorating condition of the patient. The patient was loaded into McAdoo BLS 920 with Medic 11 on board enroute to HGH for awaiting Med-Evac. A search was done to check for a possible second patient that might have been ejected, which turned up negative. Fire crews remained on scene for half an hour to assist PSP with lighting and traffic control. Once the vehicle was removed all units returned available. R-101 Vehicle Fire - Main St. Jeansville March 2, 2008 at 14:53hrs., the Luzerne County 911 Center Dispatched Hazle Twp. Fire/Rescue to Main St. in the Jeansville Section of the Twp. near Nice's Auto Sales on the reported vehicle fire. STRUCTURE FIRE - 5 OLD CRANBERRY RD. March 1, 2008 at 14:19hrs, The Luzerne County 911 Center Dispatched Hazle Twp. Fire/Rescue Station 10, Harwood Station 19 and APTS Medic 11 to Number 5 Old Cranberry Rd. on the reported structure fire. Late Morning Vehicle Fire- Hill Side Drive February 27th, 2008 at approx. 11:00hrs, Hazle Twp. Fire/Rescue Station 10 and APTS Medic 11 were dispatched by the Luzerne County 911 Center to Hillside Dr. for a reported vehicle fire. E-102 went enroute immediately after dispatch and reported a column of smoke visible from Station 1. Natural Gas Line Explosion WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, PA - On the 18th of February just after 4:00 am, the Luzerne County 911 Center began receiving numerous calls for an Explosion in the area of 1000 Church Rd., Wright Twp. This area is part of the Crestwood Industrial Park in Wright Twp. and was believed to be an Industrial Building on fire at first. It was quickly realized that it was not a Plant in the Industrial Park, but a Natural Gas Line that had Exploded and sent fire shooting into the night sky. MULTIPLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT CRIPPLES I-81 IN HAZLE TOWNSHIP February 10, 2008- Units were dispatched via Luzerne County Communications Center at 1403 hours for a multiple vehicle collision after a snow squall swept through the area. Initial reports from the Luzerne County Comm. Center reported multiple injuries and possible entrapment in vehicles. Units responded in near white out conditions and arrived on location to find a total of 68 vehicles involved, including multiple cars, trucks, and tractor trailors. The incident occurred on I-81 Northbound between mile markers 140.1-141. One tractor trailer was known to be carrying 17,000 Liters of Hydrogen Peroxide. The steel trailer surrounding Hydrogen Peroxide was determined to be unaffected by collision but the cab was demolished. One fatality resulted from the incident when a female driver from out of the area struck the rear end of a tractor trailer. Multiple people abandoned their cars and jumped down an embankment to avoid being hurt by oncoming traffic. Firefighters had to set up a rope system to rescue the people trapped at the bottom of the embankment. The injured were quickly and efficiently cared for at the scene by firefighters and EMS personnel and transported to local hospitals. 19 injured patients were treated at Hazleton General Hospital which implemented its Mass Casualty Plan. At this time one patient was transferred to a Level I trauma center, one patient was admitted to HGH, and one patient is still being treated in the ER. All other patients were treated and released. People involved in the collision that were uninjured were transported to local shelters courtesy of the American Red Cross and school buses from around the Hazleton area. 12 Fire Departments and 13 EMS agencies responded to the scene to assist along with the Pennsylvania State Police. Luzerne County EMA, Hazle Twp EMA, Hazleton City PD, and PennDOT also assisted throughout the day. During the remainder of the day multiple accidents were also reported on I-81 southbound throughout same mile markers. A comprised list of fire units that responded or were on standby include: Hazle Township Fire Co, West Hazleton Fire, Sugarloaf Twp Fire, Valley Regional Fire, McAdoo Fire, Mahanoy City Fire, Quakake Fire, Harwood Fire, Hazleton City Fire, Beaver Meadows Fire, Tresckow fire, and Freeland Fire. CAR VS TRACTOR TRAILER LEAVES 2 ENTRAPPED ON I-81 FEBRUARY 9, 2008- At 2125hrs, Hazle Twp Fire along with Medic 11 were dispatched via Luzerne County 911 to mile marker 140 on I-81 for a MVA involving a car vs tractor trailer. Further calls to the 911 center advised that two persons were entrapped in the vehicle, one of which was unconscious. An engine and a BLS unit out of McAdoo were requested to respond along with Schuylkill County Medic 40-01. Chief 101 arrived on scene and assumed command. Rescue 101 arrived on the scene and began to stabilize the vehicle. Engine 102 arrived on the scene and along with the crew from Rescue 101 began to remove the roof with O-cutters. The 40” transformers were placed in service and used to remove the rear passenger side door. The first patient was removed from the vehicle and extrication began on the second patient. A large ram was placed in service and used to push the rear seat back; access was then gained to the second patient. The second patient was extricated and transported to Hazleton General Hospital’s ER where he was stabilized and transferred to Geisinger Danville. Two other patients were also transported to HGH-ER for evaluation. Total extrication time was 16 minutes. Units operated on scene with PSP for approximately 1 hour. TOWER LADDER AND RESCUE ON 2ND ALARM ASSIGNMENT IN WEATHERLY BOROUGH JANUARY 22, 2008- At 20:54 the Carbon County Communications Center requested Tower Ladder 105 and Rescue 101 for a 2nd alarm assignment in Weatherly Borough at 306 2nd St. for a structure fire. Tower Ladder crew assisted with extensive overhaul operations. Rescue 101 provided support. Crews operated for almost 3 hours before being released by Weatherly command. 522 WINTERS AVE. WEST HAZLETON: STRUCTURE FIRE JANUARY 22, 2008- At 16:22 Hazle Twp. units dispatched to assist West Hazleton at 522 Winters Ave. for a reported structure fire. C101(Kostician) first to arrive and report a fire in the wall in the kitchen area of the residence, possibly out. First in crews opened up, and checked for extension with the thermal imaging camera. Crews found (-) extension, and conducted ventilation. Crews operated for approximately 30 minutes before being released by C241(R.Ward).
14 HOLLY LYNN TRAILER PARK: STRUCTURE FIRE JANUARY 11, 2008- Station 10 along with APTS Medic 11 alerted at 14:21 to 14 Holly Lynn Trailer Park in the Hollywood Section of the township for a reported structure fire. E-102 w/ C102(Mumie) arrived and reported smoke showing from a single story trailer. First crews conducted a primary search, and stretched (1) 1 3/4" handline. Upon investigation, the primary search was (-) and it was found that the fire was confined to the underside of the trailer, with no extension into the living area. Tower Ladder crew opened up on the exterior of the trailer to access the fire. Fire was extinguished within 10 minutes of arrival. Crews performed ventilation, and removed (2) pet cats from the residence. Crews from Hazle Twp. were assisted with tankers from Foster Twp., Sugarloaf Twp., and Valley Regional. West Hazleton Fire and Harwood Fire were placed on stand-by to cover all calls in Hazle Twp. while units operated. All units were placed back inservice by C101(Kostician) at 15:28. Hazle Twp. responded with 29 personnel, at a time of day when volunteerism is very scarce. 1 PINNED, TRESCKOW RD. CARBON COUNTY JANUARY 2, 2008- Just before 06:30, Rescue Company 101 along with APTS Medic 11 requested to assist Carbon County on the Tresckow Rd. in the area of Consolidated Cigar for a motor vehicle crash. While responding, units were advised by Luzerne County 911 of reports of entrapment on scene. C105(Gould) first to arrived and report a 2 vehicle crash with (1) entrapped. Rescue 101 arrived and began vehicle stabilization. Once stabilized, crews conducted a third door on the drivers side, flapped the roof, and performed a dash lift. The driver was extricated and under the care of EMS in 21 minutes. The patients were transported to a landing zone in the McAdoo Industrial Park for transport to trauma centers. Hazle Twp. units operated for approximately 1 hour, before being released by PSP.
STA. 10 EXTRICATES (1)- RT. 940 AND LAUREL ST. December 28, 2007- Hazle Twp. Fire & Rescue along with Medic 11 to Rt. 940 to the rear of the Jumbo China Buffet for a motor vehicle crash with reported entrapment. C103(Marsicano) first to arrive, report a 2 vehicle crash with (1) occupant entrapped. Rescue Co. arrived and began vehicle stabilization. 40" transformers put into service on the passenger side door. Door hyper extended, and patient removed to LBB. Crews assisted EMS with patient packaging, and assessed structural damage to the building. Units operated for approximately 40 minutes, before being released by command. INTERSTATE 81 NORTH MM 138 KLINE TWP. TRACTOR TRAILER ROLLOVER December 28, 2007- Hazle Twp. Rescue and Medic 11 dispatched to assist McAdoo Fire on Interstate 81 in the area of MM 138 for a tractor trailer rollover with reported entrapment. Crews arrived to find a tractor trailer down a 100 ft. embankment resting on its passenger side. The driver of the vehicle was conscious and alert standing in the cab, claiming he was not injured. The vehicle was stabilized by means of a heavy duty wrecker, and the windshield was removed from the truck. The driver got out under his own power, and was assisted up the embankment with a rope set up from the rescue company. The Rescue Co. operated for almost 1 hour, before being released by McAdoo command. RESCUE STAYS BUSY WITH ANOTHER CRASH RT. 309 AREA OF PERCHAK TRUCKING December 10, 2007- Units dispatched at 02:45 to Rt. 309 South in the area of Perchak Trucking for a motor vehicle crash with possible entrapment. C102(Mumie) first to arrive and report a 2 vehicle crash, an SUV vs. a tractor trailer. C102 reported that access was gained to the patient. Rescue arrived and assisted EMS with removal and patient care. Crews assisted PSP with traffic, before being released at 04:11. Hazle Twp. units were assisted by APTS, McAdoo BLS, and PSP. RESCUE CO. ON ENTRAPMENT CALL IN EAST UNION TWP. SCHUYLKILL CO. December 9, 2007- R-101 dispatched at 19:51 to the area of 1053 Center St. in Sheppton for a motor vehicle crash with reported entrapment. While enroute, R-101 w/ 8 personnel on board was advised by Luzerne County 911 of reports from the scene of 1 patient entrapped. Rescue arrived and went to work assisting Sheppton personnel with extrication. Crews did a complete third door on the passenger side, took the roof, and performed a dash lift. The passenger vehicle struck a tree on the drivers side, with 36+" of intrusion. Patient was extricated, and under the care of EMS in 33 minutes from the time the first units arrived. Rescue picked up, and was released by Sheppton command at 20:39. 25 SUNSET DR. HAZLE SPRINGS- STRUCTURE FIRE December 6, 2007- At 18:34, Hazle Twp. Fire & Rescue along with APTS to 25 Sunset Dr. in the Hazle Springs development for a reported structure fire. C102(Mumie) first to arrive and report a 2 story single family with nothing showing from the exterior. Upon investigation C102(Mumie) reported a fire in the kitchen, extinguished prior to his arrival. E-102 crew assisted with checking for extension and ventilation. Crews operated for approximately 30 minutes before being released by C101(Kostician). 1 EXTRICATED AFTER RT. 940 CRASH December 6, 2007- Just after noon, crews dispatched to Rt. 940 in the area of Zola's Lampost for a motor vehicle crash with reported entrapment. C101(Kostician) first to arrive and report a single vehicle crash, vehicle down over the embankment with 1 occupant entrapped. Rescue 101 arrived and began vehicle stabilization. Vehicle was stabilized by means of a come along chain system off of R-101. Crews performed a full extrication, with removal of the passenger side door, roof, and seat removal. Female patient was removed and under the care of EMS in 22 minutes. Crews assisted PSP with traffic, and were released at 13:01. C101(Kostician) had command, with C102(Mumie) as operations. CREWS STAY BUSY ON THE 24TH OF NOVEMBER WITH 5 RUNS November 24, 2007- The day started right before 01:00 hrs while the Tanker was returning from Shenandoah and the Engine was still on standby for that call. A full response from Station 10 was req. by Schuylkill County to assist McAdoo with a Working Structure Fire at 39 James St., the Village of Kelayres in Kline Twp. Units arrived to find smoke on the 1st floor of a 2 1/2 Story single family dwelling. Units found fire in the wall between the Kitchen on the 1st floor and the Basement. The fire was quickly extinguished and there was no extension to any other part of the house. The whole house did however recieve smoke damage. Rescue 101, Engine 102, Tower/Ladder 105 and Tanker 106 responded with 17 members. Call #2 was a smoke investigation at Rt. 309 and 28th st. next to Station 1. It was found to be a faulty Oil Burner. Units operated for a short time and were assisted by Hazle Twp. Code Enforcement. Call # 3 came in just after 16:00hrs. Station 10 and APTS M-11 were disp. to the corner of 24th and Vine St's for a reported Structure Fire. Tower/Ladder 105 with C-102 went inservice and reported heavy black smoke showing from station 1 which is a few blocks away. Units arrived to find an abandoned 2 Story Brick Structure with heavy smoke showing from all sides and floors. The structure was on our Do Not Enter (DNE) list due to severe clutter inside but after exterior ventillation was performed, it was found that the Bldg. was cleaned out and an interior attack was then initiated. Fire was found to be in the basement and extended into the 1st floor. The fire was quickly contained and units then went into overhaul operations. Freeland L-57 also responded to the scene and assisted with overhaul while Freeland E-54, West Hazleton Fire and Mcadoo Fire were on standby in their respective Stations. 18 members Resp. with R-101, E-102, E-103, T/L-105, T-106 and U-1011. C-101 (Kostician) had Command. While units were operating on the 24th and Vine St. Structure Fire, Call #4 came in for Rt. 924 in the Humboldt section for a Vehicle Fire. Harwood E-192 resp. and found that the fire was in the engine compartment of an SUV and was extinguished prior to their arrival. Call #5 came in at 20:19 hrs when Hazle Twp. Fire/Rescue, Freeland BLS and APTS M-11 were sent to the Jeddo Boro Rd. just off Rt. 940 in the Jeddo Section of the Twp. for a vehicle rollover with Ejection and Possibly a Pt. pinned under the vehicle. Freeland Fire C-1 (Sosar) arrived first and reported an SUV that had rolled over but was now on all fours with a pt. pinned under the vehicle between the frame and the ground. C-1 also reported the pt. was barely moving. With that information provided, Aeromedical was req. to the Jeddo Ballfield and Freeland Fire was disp. for an Engine to the LZ. R-101 arrived and stabalized the vehicle using cribbing while the other half of the crew began setting up the airbags. 2 airbags were utilized to lift the vehicle off the pt. Extrication took 8 minutes from the time the Rescue had arrived. The pt. was then rapidly extricated by Freeland EMS Personel. After the pt. was extricated, it was found that he had succumbed to his severe injuries and Aeromedical was cancelled. A Luzerne County Coroner was then req. to the scene. R-101, E-102, and U-1011 resp. to the scene with 16 members and C-101 (Kostician) had command. Addt. units that assisted were Freeland BLS, APTS M-11J and Freeland E-54 and U-52. TANKER REQ. TO ASSIST WITH A 5 ALARM FIRE IN SCHUYLKILL COUNTY November 23, 2007-At approx. 23:19 hrs., Tanker 106 was req. to respond as part of a 4 county Tanker Task Force to the 100 Block of N. Main St. in Shenandoah Boro, Schuylkill County for a 5 Alarm Commercial Structure Fire. Shenandoah units were operating a multiple bldg. Fire and ran into problems with the Boro's water supply. Multiple Tankers were req. from Schuylkill, Luzerne, Columbia and Northumberland Counties to assist. 3 Fill Sites were est. in the area of the Boro to have water shuttled to the scene. The Tanker operated for approx. 2hrs before going available. Engine 102 was also req. to be on standby at quarters and did so until a 2nd Structure Box was struck in Schuylkill County. RESCUE AND ENGINE ON THE ASSIST TO WEST HAZLETON WITH PIN JOB November 1, 2007-On the 1st of November at approx. 0313hrs, Engine 102 was req. to assist West Hazleton Fire with an LZ Establishment at the Bowl-Arena Parking Lot for 2 Aircrafts inbound. West Hazleton Units were operating on Rt. 93 at Harvey St. with an MVA with 1 pt. pinned and 2 being flown. While E-102 had est. the LZ, Rescue 101 was req. to resp. to the scene to assist with extricating the pt. The pt. was trapped in the backseat of a small sports car and had sustained a severe leg injury. Units had to cut the roof off the vehicle to extricate the pt. Once extrication was complete, the Rescue was released from the scene. Engine 102 landed both Aircraft's safely and was released after the 2nd was off the ground. All Hazle Twp. units were avail. in 1 1/4 hrs. STA. 10 STAYS BUSY WITH WORKING BUILDING FIRE IN WEST HAZLETON BOROUGH October 15,2007- Units dispatched at 19:08 to 11 E. Oak St. in West Hazleton Borough for a structure fire. Luzerne County 911 advised of several calls received reporting a working fire on the 2nd floor. West Hazleton PD arrived and reported a working fire, with fire showing on the 2nd floor of a 3 story apartment building. Chief 241(Ward) arrived and reported the same, and requested Engine 102 hit the hydrant at E. Oak and Allen. Tower-Ladder 105 had the address. Engine 242 from West Hazleton laid in from 4th and E. Oak. Crews at one point had a total of (4) 1.75" handlines, a blitz fire, a deck gun, and the pipe on the Tower-Ladder flowing. Initial fire crews were relieved by surrounding mutual aid companies. Hazle Twp. units were released by Chief 241(Ward) at 21:45. The State Police Fire Marshal was contacted to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire. STA. 10 ON THE WORKING VEHICLE FIRE ROUTE 924 AND I-81 October 15, 2007- Crews alerted by Luzerne County 911 at 15:45 to Interstate 81 and Route 924 for a reported vehicle fire. C103(Marsicano) first to arrive and report a well involved mini-van in the construction area of Route 924. Engine 102 first engine to arrive, deployed (1) 1.75" handline for extinguishment. Fire was knocked down and mopped up within 15 minutes. Units were placed inservice by C103(Marsicano) at 16:06. 1 KILLED IN I-81 CRASH October 14, 2007- Units dispatched at 01:48 to Interstate 81 Northbound in the area of MM 143 for a reported vehicle rollover in a ditch with unknown injuries. Hazle Twp. portable unit first to arrive and report a vehicle rollover into a ditch with 1 patient entrapped, and 1 patient ejected. C105(Gould) arrived with Engine 103 and reported 1 patient out of the vehicle walking wounded, and 1 patient ejected DOA. County official was notified and Engine 103 remained on scene with PSP to assist with lighting. Units operated on scene for approximately 2 hours before being released by PSP. 4114 HOLLYWOOD BLVD. GARAGE FIRE October 13, 2007- At 11:37 Luzerne County 911 alerted Hazle Twp. Fire & Rescue along with Medic 11 to 4114 Hollywood Blvd. for a reported garage fire. While enroute units advised of a 2nd call from a residence on Hollywood Blvd. stating they had a possible oil burner malfunction in the residence. C102(Mumie) requested West Hazleton also be dispatched for the 2nd call. Tower-Ladder 105 w/ C102(Mumie) first to arrive at the garage and report a working fire in a single stall 1 story garage. Engine 102 first in engine arrived and stretched (1) 1.75" handline. Fire was extinguished within 15 minutes. Crews conducted extensive overhaul and went available within 1 hour. Engine 103 and Engine 242 from West Hazleton investigated the 2nd incident, and confirmed an oil burner malfunction. 1 EXTRICATED AFTER RT. 940 CRASH October 10, 2007- Units dispatched at 14:48 to 1090 N. Church St. at the Academy of Hair Design for a reported motor vehicle crash with injuries. Rescue 101 w/ C103(Marsicano) first to arrive and report a single vehicle into the building with heavy front end, and structural damage. Upon further investigation, C103 called entrapment. Vehicle was stabilized, and crews began extrication. The drivers side door was removed with the 40" transformers, dash was rolled, and patient was removed in 8 minutes. Patient was transported to the Hazleton Airport to an awaiting aero-medical helicopter. Fire personnel controlled fluids leaking from the vehicle, and assesed the structural damge to the building. Crews also assisted PSP with traffic control until the vehicle was removed. Units operated on scene for 30 minutes before being released by C101(Kostician). 129 MIDDLETOWN VILLAGE- DWELLING FIRE October 9, 2007- At 05:26 Luzerne County 911 received a call from 129 Middletown Village reporting a sofa on fire inside the residence. First arriving units reported a working fire, with smoke showing from floor 1. Engine 102 w/ C102(Mumie) first in engine, stretched (1) 1.75" handline to the first floor. Fire originated and was contained to a sofa in the living room of the residence. Fire was extinguished, and the sofa was removed from the residence. Crews had heavy smoke inside the residence, and conducted ventilation. Hazle Twp crews were assisted by Foster Tanker, Freeland Engine, APTS, and Valley Regional Tanker. Additional tankers were also requested, however cancelled prior to arriving due to the quick knock down. Units operated on scene for approximately one hour, before being released by fire command. The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal was contacted to investigate the fire. STA.10 STAYS BUSY WITH A WORKING FIRE IN A DRIFTON JUNKYARD September 25, 2007- At 17:10, Sta. 10 dispatched to Rt. 940 in the Drifton section in the area of Drifton Auto Sales for a large column of black smoke in the area. Utility 10 w/ C101(Kostician) first to arrive and report a working fire inside the junkyard at Drifton Auto Sales. Engine 102 first in engine was assigned to fire attack. Initially (1) 2.50" handline was stretched to the fire. Crews also placed (1) 2.50" Blitz Fire, and (2) 1.75" into service. Due to the lack of water in the area, C101(Kostician) requested tankers from Foster Twp., Valley Regional, Tresckow, and Harwood. Freeland Engine set up a fillsite for tankers on 1st. St. in Drifton. Crews had the fire under control within 30 minutes. Representatives from Luzerne County EMA, and PPL were also on scene. Rehab was provdied by the Freeland Ambulance. Units operated on scene for approximately 2 hours before being returned to service. INTERSTATE 81 @ MM 143- WORKING TRACTOR TRAILER FIRE September 25, 2007- At 23:53 Hazle Twp Fire along with APTS dispatched to Interstate 81 Southbound in the area of Milemarker 143 for a reported tractor trailer on fire. While enroute units advised by Luzerne County 911 of multiple calls being received. Engine 102 and 103 arrived to find a working fire in the rear tire area of the empty Wal-Mart trailer. (1) 1.75" handline was placed inservice, and the fire was extinguished within 5 minutes. Checks for extension into the trailer came up negative. Units picked up and went available within 30 minutes. STATION 10 ASSISTS WEST HAZLETON WITH STRUCUTRE FIRE September 11, 2007- At Approx. 13:00hrs, The Luzerne County 911 Center Disp. West Hazleton Fire, Hazle Twp. Fire, West Hazleton BLS and APTS Medic 11 to North St. in the area of the West Hazleton Middle School for a reported Structure Fire. County Advising it was called in by the School District and there was smoke coming from the windows. Hazle Twp. C-102 (Mumie) First to arrive and reported a 2 1/2 Story Single Family Dwelling with Smoke Showing, Correct Address to be 301 North St. Interior Crews found Fire to be in the Basement of the Structure. Hazle Twp. Engine, Rescue and Truck Crews assisted with Fire Attack and Vent Work. Units operated for Approx. 1 HR. before being released by West Hazleton C-241 (Ward). Freeland Fire also provided Standby with E-54 at our station during this incident. While units were returning from this Job, Luzerne County notified us of a Fire Alarm at 1000 W. 27th, Mountain City Nursing Home. All units responded and found the cause of the Alarm to be a Faulty Detector. STATION 10 TAKES IN VEHICLE FIRE IN THE EBERVALE SECTION September 7, 2007- At Approx. 01:40hrs, The Luzerne County 911 Center Disp. Hazle Twp. Fire/Rescue along with APTS Medic 11 to Rt. 940 just West of the Stockton Rd. on the reported vehicle fire. Hazle Chief 103 (Marsicano) arrived within 2 minutes of the disp. and reported a passenger car fully involved. E-102 arrived and stretched (1) 1.75" Trashline and Extinguished the Fire. Engine Crew then performed overhaul. Units cleared within 1/2 Hr. Medic 11G and PSP assisted Fire Units on the scene. 1 MALE KILLED IN AIRPLANE CRASH AT THE HAZLETON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT September 2, 2007- Luzerne County 911 dispatched Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue along with APTS at 11:09 to the Hazleton Municipal Airport for a reported airplane on fire. Engine 102 w/ C102(Mumie) first to hit the street had received several walk-in's to Sta. 10-1 prior to being dispatched by 911. While enroute, units advised of a reported plane crash with fire. Engine 102 arrived and reported a single engine aircraft well involved, located in the grassy field at the east side of the runway right along Route 309. Engine crew stretched (1) 1.75" handline to extinguish the fire. The fire was extinguished within 5 minutes of the Engine Co.'s arrival. C102(Mumie) reported 1 patient DOA and requested a county official. All the appropriate authorities were contacted both by PSP Hazleton, Hazleton Police Department, and Luzerne County 911. The Luzerne County Coroners Office had 4 representatives on scene, with a representative from the FAA, multiple units from PSP and HPD, Hazleton Fire Department C-1, and Luzerne County EMA. APTS provided rehab for the personnel working on the scene. The patient was removed from the aircraft by Sta. 10 personnel by means of the 40" transformers, "O" cutters, and rams. Once the patient was removed from the aircraft, all Fire/Rescue/EMS personnel were released. The FAA is handling the investigation into the crash. Fire units operated for approximately 3 hours. 1 PINNED AFTER I-81 CRASH August 23, 2007- At 15:42 Sta.10 along with APTS to Interstate 81 North @ Exit 141 for a motor vehicle accident with reported entrapment. Engine 103 w/ C101(Kostician) first to arrive and report a rear end collison, Jeep vs. tractor trailer with 1 female patient heavily entrapped. Engine 103 crew began stabilization. Rescue 101 arrived and began extrication. Crews removed the steering wheel, and (B) post to access the patient. Patient was extricated, and transported by Medic 11A to the Harwood LZ. Harwood Engine 192 established the LZ. Due to aero-medical aborting due to weather, the LZ was changed to HGH's heli-pad. Crews assisted with traffic, and vehicle removal before being released by C101(Kostician). STA. 10 ON WORKING COMMERCIAL FIRE AT TEMPLE INLAND August 13, 2007- At 22:36 Hazle Twp Fire along with Harwood Fire and APTS dispatched to 533 Forest Rd. at Temple Inland for a reported structure fire. While enroute, units advised of a reported fire on the roof of the plant. Engine 103 w/ C101(Kostician) first to arrive and report nothing showing from the exterior. Plant maintainence personnel reported a fire in a machine on the ground floor and spreading up to the dust collector system. Tower-Ladder 105 crew w/ C105(Gould) were assigned to roof operations. Tower-Ladder crew reported no extension to the cyclone units, and conducted ventilation. Fire was extinguished, and units ventilated the plant. Engine 192 from Harwood pumped the stand pipe system, while Engine 102 supplied the Tower-Ladder. Crews operated til approximately 00:10 before being put back inservice by C101(Kostician). Sheppton Fire units were also on scene assisting Hazle Twp. and Harwood units. WORKING COMMERCIAL FIRE ON RT. 309 IN THE AREA OF STA.10-1 August 8 , 2007- At 05:37 Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue along with APTS Medic 11 alerted to Rt. 309 at the old Montones Dealership for a reported structure fire. C102(Mumie) first to sign on, advised by Luzerne Co. 911 Center that the caller reported it in the area of the firehouse and McDonalds on Rt. 309. C102(Mumie) advised of heavy smoke visible from Church St. in Hazleton City. C102 arrived and reported a working fire, with heavy smoke showing division 1, and heavy fire showing on division 2 (A) side. Engine 102 first due engine co. laid a 5" LDH supply line from 27th St. and Rt. 309 in front of the firehouse to the (A) side of the fire building. Tower-Ladder 105 first due truck set up on the (B) side of the structure. First in crews encountered heavy smoke on division 1. (1) 1.75" handline was stretched from Engine 102 to the stairwell on the A/D corner of the structure. Crews encountered heavy fire in the stiarwell, and in the fire room on the 2nd floor. Crews had the bulk of the fire knocked down within 5 minutes of the hoseline deployment. Outside crews conducted extensive OV work, with TL-105 w/ C104(Bridge) with roof operations. Engine 103 2nd in engine, laid a 5" LDH supply line from 28th St. and Rt. 309 near the McDonalds down to supply Engine 102 on the (A) side of the structure. C101(Kostician) requested a 2nd alarm residential box alarm for the Harleigh Section for additional manpower. The 2nd box brought in an Engine and Truck from Sta. 5(Freeland), an Engine, Tower, and Rescue from Valley Regional, and an Engine from Sta. 1(Sugarloaf). APTS had multiple units on scene conducting rehab. Units operated for approximately 2 hours before being released by fire command. The PSP Fire Marshal was contacted to conduct an investigation into the cause of Wednesday's early morning fire. C101(Kostician) had command, with C102(Mumie) with operations. STA. 1O TAKES IN WORKING AUTO FIRE IN HAZLE VILLAGE August 7 , 2007- At 20:07 Sta. 10 along with APTS Medic 11 alerted to Rt. 309 in the area of the Arthur Gardener Highway for a reported vehicle fire. While enroute Luzerne County 911 advised responding units of multiple calls received reporting it right in the area of the drivers license center. C102(Mumie) first to arrive and reporting a passenger vehicle with a working fire in the engine compartment. (1) 1.75" handline stretched from Engine 103 bumper line. Fire extinguished within 5 minutes of arrival of the Engine Co. C102(Mumie) placed Engine 102 back inservice, and Engine 103 went back inservice shortly thereafter. 1 PERSON KILLED IN DRIFTON CRASH July 28, 2007- At 21:16 Hazle Twp Fire and Rescue along with APTS Medic 11 and Freeland BLS sent to Rt. 940 in the area of the Drifton Curve for a motor vehicle crash with reported injuries. While enroute, units advised by Luzerne County 911 of reports of entrapment, and ejection. Freeland BLS first to arrive and report the same. EMS reported 1 female down in the roadway DOA, and 1 male entrapped in the vehicle. Rescue 101 w/ Lt. 106(Zoshak) arrived to find a GMC Jimmy Vs. a utility pole with 1 male entrapped. Rescue crew stabilized the vehicle, and began extrication. Extrication was completed with the 40" transformers by removing the front passenger side door. Pt. was extricated in 7 minutes from the arrival time of the Rescue Co. Freeland Fire was requested for an engine to respond to the Drifton Ballfield and establish a landing zone for an incoming Medevac helicopter. Once extricated, pt. was transported via Freeland BLS w/ Medic 11G to the LZ. Fire and Rescue crews remained on scene assisting PSP with lighting and traffic control. The last units were released at 04:00. 1 EXTRICATED AFTER BLACK CREEK TWP. CRASH July 24, 2007 - At approximately 03:05 Hazle Twp. units along with APTS Medic 11 and Nuremberg BLS sent to Walden Dr. in the Eagle Rock section in the area of the Sugarloaf Townhomes for a reported vehicle crash with unknown injuries. Additional information received from the caller reported a vehicle over the embankment with an occupant still in the vehicle. Due to uncertainty on the municipality of the incident. units from Schuylkill Co. were also dispatched. Engine 103 w/ C101(Kostician) first to arrive and report an SUV over the embankment, with 1 occupant entrapped. Rescue 101 w/ C102(Mumie) arrived and went to work. Crews stabilized the vehicle on the embankment by means of come-a-longs chain system. Extrication consisted of a passenger side door removal, and a roof roll. Extrication was completed in 19 minutes. Pt. was transported by Medic 11D and Nuremberg BLS to the LZ at the top ski area at Eagle Rock. Units cleared the scene within 45 minutes. Along with Hazle Twp. units, units from Sheppton and Nuremberg- Weston also assisted at the scene and LZ. Call turned out to be in Black Creek Twp. DRAGLINE FIRE, HAZLE TWP. July 05, 2007 - At 13:32 Hazle Twp Fire was dispatched to Jeddo Coal Company Rt. 940 & Stockton Rd. for a dragline fire. E-102, TL-105, T-106, and R-101 enroute advised by county 911 that a company representivie will meet FD at the entrannce on Stockton Rd. and lead units to the machine. Crews found fire in the Marion 8700 shovel caused by sparks from a welding tourch. Foam cans were used to extinguish fire in the grease tub area. Crews operated on scene for 30 minutes.
ENGINE 102 TAKES IN VEHICLE FIRE ON RT. 309 IN FRONT OF STATION 10-1 June 18, 2007- At 19:15 while going about a normal day at Station 10-1, crews had a walk-in to the station reporting a vehicle on fire on Rt. 309 in the area of Barber Ford in front of Hazle Twp. Station 10-1. Engine 102 w/ C102(Mumie) arrived and reported a working passenger vehicle fire in the engine compartment. Units stretched (1) 1 3/4" handline and extinguished the fire. Units had the fire extinguished within 5 minutes. The occupant reported to firefighters that he was having mechanical issues with the vehicle prior to pulling over and it catching fire. TOWER-LADDER, ENGINE, AND TANKER ON STRUCTURE FIRE IN CARBON CO. June 18, 2007- At 04:37 units from Sta. 10 along with Harwood Tanker and West Hazleton Ladder were dispatched to the Audenreid section of Banks Twp. Carbon Co. for a reported structure fire. McAdoo Inc. units first to arrive and report heavy fire through the roof of an abandoned residence at 82 Church St. Hazle Twp. units were assigned to assist with fire attack, and water supply. Tower-Ladder 105 was put into aerial master stream operations, while E102 and Tanker 106 were assigned to water supply. Units had the fire under control within 25 minutes of arriving on the scene. Units operated for almost three hours hitting hot spots, before being released by fire command. STA. 10 ON WORKING COMMERCIAL FIRE IN HUMBOLDT INDUSTRIAL PARK June 14, 2007- Just after 21:00 units were dispatched to 555 Oakridge Rd. at Polyglass USA for a reported activated fire alarm. While signing on the air, responding units were advised of a working fire at the location. C101(Kostician) requested that Sheppton-Oneida be added to the box along with Hazle Twp and Harwood units. E103 first to arrive with the chief and report heavy smoke showing from the rear of the building. First in crews found heavy fire at the top of the mixing tank. Fire was knocked down with a dry chem wagon from inside the plant. Other first alarm units performed extensive overhaul and ventilation operations. Units operated on scene for just over two hours before being released by C101(Kostician). TOWER-LADDER ON WORKING FIRE IN BUTLER TWP. June 14, 2007- At 11:23, Hazle Twp. Fire alerted along with Valley Regional and Sugarloaf Fire to 866 St. Johns Rd. for a reported structure fire. While enroute units were advised of a fire in a dryer. Hazle Twp Portable Basala first to arrive on scene and report heavy smoke showing. C106(Zoshak) arrived right shortly after portable Basala and advised Valley Regional units of a single story wood frame residential with heavy smoke showing from the eves of the residence. Upon arrival of Valley Regional E1, C106(Zoshak) and FF Basala stretched an 1 3/4" handline to the attic space. Fire was knocked down within 5 minutes, and extensive overhaul and ventilation operations were conducted. Truck 105 crew had roof operations and OV work. Hazle Twp. units operated for over an hour before being released by Valley Regional command. TOWER AND RESCUE ON COMMERCIAL FIRE IN WRIGHT TWP. June 12, 2007- At 11:37 Sta. 10 was alerted to respond to Oakhill Rd. in the Crestwood Industrial Park at Certainteed for a reported working commercial fire. Tower-Ladder 105 and Rescue 101 were assigned to the box. Units were dispatched to to assist Wright Twp Fire on a 2nd alarm commercial assignment. Hazle Twp crews arrived and were assigned to staging by Wright Twp. command. Crews were assigned to assist with overhaul operations. Crews operated for over 3 hours on scene, before being released by Wright Twp. command. 1 MAN KILLED AFTER RT. 924 CRASH June 7, 2007- At 02:46 Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue along with APTS Medic 11 were dispatched to Rt. 924 between Scotch Pine Dr. and Maplewood Dr. for a reported motor vehicle crash with unknown injuries. As units went enroute, they were advised by Luzerne County 911 of possibly one occupant entrapped, and a possible fatality on scene. Medic 11G first to arrive and report a 2 vehicle crash, a passenger car vs. a tractor trailer. Medic 11 reported two patients involved, the driver of the passenger car who was dead at the scene, and the driver of the tractor trailer who was refusing treatment. Upon arrival of the county official, the victim was extricated from the vehicle by means of the 40" transformers from R-101. Fire and Rescue remained on scene to assist PSP and the county official while an investigation was conducted. C102(Mumie) command, also requested DEP be notified of a diesel fuel spill from the tractor trailer, of approximately 100 gallons on the ground. Units operated on scene for approximately an hour and a half before being returned by C102(Mumie). On a very sad note, the thoughts and prayers from Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue Co. go out to Jim Yurick and family. Jim, a local fire equipment dealer, and Assistant Fire Chief from Sheppton-Oneida was the step-father of the male killed in the accident. Jim has been a great friend, and great business partner of Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue for many years. TOWER-LADDER ON STRUCTURE BOX IN CONYNGHAM BOROUGH May 23, 2007- At 10:39, Tower-Ladder 105 was dispatched to assist Valley Regional at 210 Main St. in Conyngham Borough for a reported working structure fire. PD first on scene, reported a working fire, with the occupants attempting to extinguish it. Tower-Ladder arrived and was assigned to checking the exterior, as well as ventilation work. Fire was knocked down with (1) 1 3/4" handline, and was contained to the exterior of the strucutre. The Truck operated for approximately 45 minutes, before being released by VR Command. STA. 10 ON WORKING FIRE IN AN APARTMENT BUILDING IN FREELAND BOROUGH May 22, 2007- At 22:07, Sta. 10 was assigned to respond to 702 Centre St. in Freeland Borough for a reported structure fire in an apartment building. Medic 26 from Valley Regional first to arrive and report a working fire, with occupants still in the building on the third floor. HTFD Portable 1055 arrived just before Freeland Truck and made entry into the fire room. The fire was knocked down with a PW, and mopped up with a 200' 2" attack line off Freeland Engine 1. OV work was conducted by Tower-Ladder 105's crew. Units operated for approximately 45 minutes before being released by Freeland C1(Sosar) 1 MALE FLOWN TO TRAUMA CENTER AFTER FALL May 22, 2007- Just after the 12:30 hour, Hazle Twp. Fire was alerted to assist Medic 11 at 504 White Birch Rd. in the Humboldt Industrial Park at National Starch for a male fall victim approx. 20 feet onto a concrete floor. Medic 11 arrived on scene and requested aero-medical to fly. C102(Mumie) requested Engine 102 to the scene to establish the LZ in the parking lot of the plant. Rescue 101 crew assisted Medic 11 with patient care and packaging. Upon arrival of Medevac 4, patient was loaded into the helicopter and transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital. Units operated for approximately 30 minutes on scene. RESCUE AND ENGINE ON THE WORKING FIRE IN WHITE HAVEN BOROUGH May 22, 2007- At 07:49 Engine 102 was assigned to move-up to Freeland Fire Station 5 to cover all calls while they were operating at a structure fire in White Haven. While on stand-by White Haven Chief requested Hazle Twp units to the scene for manpower. Upon arrival of Engine 102 and Rescue 101, Engine crew was assigned to assist units already operating with fire attack. Rescue 101 crew was assigned to RIT and staged on the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street. Units operated on scene for almost 2 hours before placing the fire under control. Due to deteriorating conditions in the fire building, units were assigned to a defensive attack until the fire was placed under control. Hazle Twp. units were released after approximately 2 and a half hours and returned to the first due. CREWS EXTINGUISH TRAILER FIRE IN THE YORKTOWN SECTION OF THE TWP. May 22, 2007- Just before 5am, units were dispatched to the Beaver Brook section for a reported unknown type fire in the area. E-102 first to arrive and report to all units that the fire was unaccessible from Beaver Brook, and it appeared it was in the Yorktown section. All units were diverted to the updated location. First units to arrive reported a mobile home trailer well involved, with reports of a possible homeless occupant inside. Upon extinguishment of the fire, a thorough search was conducted and turned up negative. Crews mopped up for approximately 1 hour before being released by C101(Kostician) Sta. 10 was assisted by McAdoo Inc., Tresckow, APTS, and PSP. 1 MALE DIES IN DIAMOND EAST MOTORCYCLE CRASH May 18, 2007- At 19:20 units were dispatched to East Diamond Ave. in the area of Hazle Springs development for a motorcycle crash with a reported possible traumatic arrest on scene. C102(Mumie) first to arrive and report 1 male patient down in the roadway with serious injuries. C102 requested Medevac be launched to HGH. R-101 arrived and crew began assisting Medic 11 with patient care. After a short time, the paramedic on scene contacted medical command, and it was determined the patient suffered severe traumatic injuries, and had no signs of life. A county official was notified. Fire and Rescue units remained to assist the county official and PSP until the investigation was complete. Units operated for over an hour. ATTEMPTED TRAFFIC STOP ENDS IN SERIOUS ACCIDENT March 31, 2007 - At 02:00 units were dispatched to I-81 and Rt. 924 in the Twp. for a vehicle rollover. C-102, enroute to the station, was alerted by the county that the police were involoved in a chase and reported an accident. West Hazleton C-247 was in the area and reported 2 vehicles, 1 rolled over against a telephone pole with 3 pinned and a passenger car upright in the median with 2 trapped; the driver in serious condition. Upon hearing the updated information, C-102 requested R 245 to be added to the box along with additional ALS and BLS units. Harwood Engine was dispatched to the Harwood ball field for LZ operations. R-101 and C-102 arrived on scene went to work on the priority patient in the car which received severe driver side damage. Crews completely removed the entire driver side along with the entire roof to access the driver. Extrication time for the patient was 11 minutes. E-103 and R-245 were assigned extrication duties on the Jeep and its 3 victims. After gaining access through the rear hatch patient removal began. At this time additional ALS and BLS units arrived on scene. Total extraction time for both vehicles and all patients was 17 minutes. Crews operated on scene and assisted PSP R&I for nearly 5 hours. WORKING DUPLEX WEST HAZLETON March 30, 2007 - At 06:14 West Hazleton and Hazle Twp units were sent to 327 Allen St., West Hazleton for a structure fire. Luzerne County 911 advised units of multiple calls and possible trapped occupants. West Hazleton C-241 arrived and reported a 2½ story brick duplex with fire showing from 1st floor side - B. E-102 arrived and established water supply and laid-in to the rear of structure. Tower Ladder 105 took the address and searched for victims ahead of the hose team. The truck also threw ground ladder with the assistance of L-244. Fire was controlled within 15 minutes and search crews reported "all clear" on possible victims. Units operated on scene for 1 hour. PIN JOB AUDENREID, BANKS TWP. Wednesday, March7, 2007 - At 10:00 units from McAdoo, Tresckow, and Hazle Twp were dispatched to Rt 309 in the Audenreid section of Banks Twp. for an MVA with entrapment. McAdoo C-224 arrived and reported a car vs. tractor trailer with the car's driver heavily pinned. R-101 arrived , stabilized and began removal of the drivers side doors and roof while McAdoo EMS personnel treated the patient. Extrication was completed in 15 minutes and the patient was taken by ground to Lehigh Valley Hospital. WORKING COMMERCIAL FIRE BRINGS IN A 3RD ALARM ASSIGNMENT Thursday, March 2,2007- At 07:34 Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue along with APTS Medic 11 dispatched to 1441 N. Church St. at Genetti's for a reported structure fire. C102(Mumie) first on radio reported smoke visible from 19th St. and Church St. E-102 first in reported heavy smoke showing from the (A) side of the banquet facility. A 2nd alarm assignment was requested at 07:44. E-102 established a primary water supply from the hydrant on the (D) side of the structure. TL-105 first in truck arrived and began immediate ventilation work. C102(Mumie) and FF Burke were assigned to roof operations. Valley Regional E-2 second in engine laid a 1100ft. 5" supply line from the hydrant on 32nd St. at Plum Air into the scene. E-103 arrived and picked up VR E-2's lay and pumped the hydrant. First in crews encountered extreme heat and heavy smoke. Bulk of the fire was contained to the business offices and surrounding closets and storage areas. First interior crew consisting of FF Gould, FF Sedon, and FF Segaria deployed a 2 1/2" setback line to the front door, and stretched a 150' 1 3/4" high rise pack. Freeland Ladder second in truck company arrived and began assisting with ventilation. A compliment of ground ladders were thrown around the (A), (B), and (C) sides. Truck crew from Freeland also sent (2) firefighters to the roof to assist TL-105 crews with ventilation. Upon further assessment by C101(Kostician) a third alarm assignment was struck at 07:58. A 2nd 1 3/4" high rise pack was deployed. VR E-2 established a water supply to TL-105, and Freeland Ladder as a precautionary measure for possible defensive operations. Interior crews reported to command, the heavy smoke and high heat conditions, stating they could hear the fire rolling around, but had 0 visibility on it. Interior crews then reported a partial collapse of a drop ceiling in the fire room. At that point, the fire became visible, and the bulk of the fire was knocked down. Roof crew reported ventilation complete at this time. C101(Kostician) reported the fire to be under control at 09:07, 1 hour and 33 minutes after the initial dispatch. At this point, an extensive overhaul and salvage operation was underway. Command requested any units not on scene at this point, to relocate to both Hazle Twp. and West Hazleton stations. At 09:40 command began to release 2nd and 3rd alarm units. Units operated for a total of 4 hours and 19 minutes. The State Police fire marshal was contacted, and determined the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring inside the office area. Another agressive and strategic attack by firefighters prevented the fire from spreading throughout the banquet hall. HEAVY SMOKE FOUND ON ARRIVAL AT ALLIANCE WAREHOUSE Tuesday, February 20, 2007- At 23:31, Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue along with APTS Medic 11 and West Hazleton Truck dispatched to 209 W. Clay Ave. at the Alliance Warehouse for an activated fire alarm. Engine 102 arrived with a crew of 5 and reported nothing showing. Keyholder arrived just after Engine 102, and entry was made into the structure. An interior crew of 4 FF's from Engine 102 reported to command a strong odor of smoke in the lobby of the occupancy. Crews began investigating the odor, and encountered a heavy smoke condition in the (AD) corner warehouse. Command then requested an additional tone for Sta. 10 and 24, along with a request for McAdoo Quint 49-22. Interior crews reported a small fire in a cardboard storage bin in the warehouse. The fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system prior to the arrival of first in units. An extensive ventilation operation was conducted. Crews operated for approximately 1 hour. C102(Mumie) had command, and L106(Shema) had operations. The PSP Fire Marshal was contacted to assist in the investigation of the fire. 2 INJURED AFTER AWNING COLLAPSE IN HUMBOLDT INDUSTRIAL PARK Saturday, February 17, 2007- Just before 16:00, crews dispatched to 8 Maplewood Dr. at the Hilton Reservations for a reported roof collapse with 1 occupant trapped within. C101(Kostician) first on the air, requested West Hazleton Ladder also to be dispatched. C102(Mumie) arrived and assumed command. C102 reported an approximate 30' by 50' roof collapse. As per employees on the scene, they reported (1) occupant still trapped within the wreckage. C102 called heavy entrapment, and requested Rescue Co's. from West Hazleton, Sugarloaf, and Valley Regional to assist. Engine 103 arrived and began stabilization. Rescue then arrived and assisted with stabilization. Crews began removing snow one section at a time. The female was located, and the snow and roofing area around her was moved piece by piece. The female was extricated from the rubble within 15 minutes of the first arriving units. Aeromedical was requested, and launched to the HGH heli-pad at the request of Medic 11B. Reports from the scene, stated a possible second victim to also be trapped. Crews from Hazle Twp, Harwood, and West Hazleton continued removing snow and roofing materials from the area. Upon a thorough search and investigation, it was determined that all the occupants were safely accounted for. The 2nd patient was transported by West Hazleton BLS to HGH for an evaluation. Crews operated for approximately 1 and 1/2 hours. The additional Rescue Co's that were requested by C102 were recalled prior to arrival due to sufficient personnel and equipment on scene. C102(Mumie) had command, C101(Kostician) and C242(P.Ward) had safety. WORKING VEHICLE FIRE IN THE MAPLE MANOR SECTION Thursday, February 15, 2007- Just before 13:30, Sta. 10 and Medic 11 alerted to the area of 1029 E 19th St. for a reported working vehicle fire. C102(Mumie) along with E-102 arrived, and reported a pick-up truck with heavy fire in the engine compartment. Crews stretched (1) 1 3/4" handline off the front bumper. Fire was extinguished within 10 minutes. Units mopped up, and operated for approximately 30 minutes before being released by C102. STA. 10 RESPONDS TO A WORKING RV FIRE ON INTERSTATE 81 Monday, February 12, 2007- While in the middle of a Tower-Ladder 107 spec meeting, Hazle Twp. Fire & Rescue along with APTS dispatched to Interstate 81 southbound in the area of MM 143 for a reported working RV fire. C103(Marsicano) first to arrive, reported a fully involved RV. Engine 103 first engine in, stretched an 1 3/4" trashline off the front bumper. Tanker 106 arrived and supplied Engine 103. Fire was knocked down, and mopped up within 45 minutes. Units were then placed inservice. PSP was contacted of the incident, due to the fact the vehicle was in motion at the time of the fire. CREWS FIND HEAVY SMOKE ON ARRIVAL AT THE HAZLETON APARTMENTS Monday, February 12, 2007- At 05:47 hours, Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue along with APTS, and West Hazleton and Freeland Truck Co's. dispatched to the area of W 24th St. and N Locust St. for a reported structure fire. Crews advised while enroute, that the building manager of the Hazleton Apartments was stating that they had a working fire in apartment 909. He also stated that the individual from the apartment wasn't accounted for. C101(Kostician) first to arrive and report a multi-occupancy apartment building with heavy smoke showing. C101 requested Engine 102 first in engine to hit the plug on the way in. First in crews made contact with the resident, and assisted him out of the apartment. C102(Mumie) reported a food on the stove incident with no fire, however a heavy smoke condition on the interior. Ventilation work was conducted, and crews cleared within 45 minutes. 1 INJURED AFTER SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH ON THE CLUB 40 RD. Friday, February 9, 2007- While operating at a previous motor vehicle crash, Hazle Twp Command was contacted by LC911 and advised of another crash in the 1st due. Units dispatched to the Club 40 Rd. approximately 1/10 of a mile from the Stockton Rd. for a motor vehicle crash. HPD units on the scene requesting an extrication. C102(Mumie) first to arrive, reported an SUV off the side of the road, and confirmed entrapment. Upon arrival of first in units, the patient was removed from the vehicle by means of the driver side door, and was taken into police custody. The vehicle involved was involved in a chase with local police prior to the crash. Fire units were released by police once the patient was extricated. Units operated for approximately 15 minutes. The patient was transported to HGH by Medic 11. ANOTHER KITCHEN FIRE IN THE 1ST DUE Tuesday, February 6, 2007- At 15:54 Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue along with APTS and West Hazleton Ladder 244 alerted to 73 Venisa Dr. in the Ridgewood section for a reported structure fire. While enroute, crews advised that they resident had a stove on fire, and had lots of smoke in the residence. E-102 w/ C102(Mumie) arrived and reported a 2 story multi-occupancy with nothing showing from the exterior. Upon investigation, crews found a moderate smoke condition in the structure. The fire was contained to the oven, and extinguished with a PW. Ventilation was conducted, and crews were placed available within a half hour. CREWS MAKE QUICK WORK OF KITCHEN FIRE Monday, January 29, 2007-At 12:03 Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue along with APTS and West Hazleton Ladder 244 dispatched to 1059 North Locust St. for a reported structure fire. E102 w/ C102 (Mumie) enroute with 6 FF's advised by LC911 that it was a spanish speaking caller very difficult to understand. All the calltaker was able to obtain was some sort of fire in the kitchen. E102 arrived and reported nothing showing. The address was an apartment on the 2nd floor of the Hazleton Day Care Center. Crews made entry and found a small fire on the stove with minor extension into the hood, and cabinets. FF Marsch extinguished the fire by means of a PW. Overhaul was performed, and ventilation was conducted. Crews operated for approximately 30 minutes on the scene. C102 (Mumie) had operations, and C101(Kostician) had safety. 7 INJURED AFTER SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH ON AIRPORT RD. Sunday,January 28, 2007- At 18:05 Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue along with APTS Medic 11 dispatched to the Airport Beltway in the area of the Wal-Mart for a motor vehicle crash with reported injuries. R-101 w/ C102 (Mumie) enroute with 8 personnel advised by LC911 that they had reports of 3 injuries on scenel. Rescue arrived to find a single vehicle, mini-van into a concrete light pole with all occupants out. C102 (Mumie) sized up the scene, and assumed command. (-) entrapment, and (-) fluids down. Rescue crew split personnel, sending 3 personnel to the vehicle involved, and 3 other personnel to a second vehicle sheltering the injured from the weather. FF Zoshak assessed the patients in the vehicle involved, and reported a total of 4 injuries in the van. FF Burke assessed the 2nd vehicle, and reported a total of 5 patients being sheltered. A total of 10 patients in all on the scene. C102 (Mumie) requested a 2nd ALS unit, and an additional transport unit from APTS. Medic 11F first EMS unit on scene, transported (1) patient with chest pain, Medic 11D second EMS unit on scene, transported (2) BLS patients, and Medic 26 third EMS unit to arrive, transported (3) children, and (1) adult to HGH. Medic 11 also obtained (3) refusals. FD personnel were released by PSP once all the patients were in EMS care. Units operated for approximately 45 minutes. Both Fire and EMS personnel had to deal with trecherous road condition after heavy snow blanketed the area. STA. 10 TAKES IN WORKING GARAGE FIRE IN MCADOO Tuesday, January 16, 2007- At 17:03 Hazle Twp Fire was dispatched to assist Schuylkill District 49 (McAdoo) at 129 South Hancock St. in McAdoo Borough on the reported working structure fire. Chief 49-08(B.Leshko) arrived and assumed command. Command reported a working fire in a garage at the rear of Fegley's Market. Command requested (2) supply lines be established. Engine 102 arrived and assisted District 49 personnel with stretching (2) 1 3/4" handlines, and (2) 2 1/2" handlines. Fire was knocked down within 15 mintues. Extensive overhaul was conducted. Units operated for approximately 1 hour before being released by McAdoo Command. The PSP Fire Marshal is investigating. 1ST CALL OF YEAR IS AN ASSIST TO STA. 24 Monday,January 1, 2007-Just after 09:00, Hazle Twp Fire was alerted for the first time in 2007 to assist Sta. 24(West Hazleton) at 131 Webster Ave. for a reported structure fire. Luzerne County 911 reported the caller stated they had sparks shooting out of their oven, and were unable to shut the power off. Engine 242 arrived and reported nothing showing. Upon investigation, it was found to be a malfunctioning element inside the stove. All units operated for approximately 10 minutes, before being released by C241(R. Ward). HTFD ENDS 2006 WITH 899 CALLS FOR SERVICE Hazle Twp. Fire and Rescue Co. manned 899 calls for service, and had 0 scratches. A further fire report with additional statistics will be released, once processesd by the chiefs office. 1 INJURED AFTER 2 CAR CRASH ON I-81 Thursday, December 28,2006- While returning from the industrial accident, Sta. 10 and Medic 11 alerted to I-81 Soutbound in the area of milemarker 144.5 for a reported multi-vehicle crash with injuries. E103 first to arrive and report a 2 vehicle crash with one vehicle rolled over on its side. E103 also reported all occupants out of the vehicle, with 1 possible injury. 1 male patient was transported to HGH via Medic 11. Fire assisted PSP with traffic until the roadway was cleared. Units operated for approximately 1 hour. 1 FLOWN TO TRAUMA CENTER AFTER INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT Thursday, December 28,2006- Hazle Twp Fire & Rescue along with Medic 11 dispatched at 20:41 to 100 Can-Do Expressway at Romark Logistics for a reported industrial accident with entrapment. Gould (1040) was first to arrive and report no entrapment. Female patient was extricated by co-workers prior to the arrival of the first in units. Medic 11 requested aero-medical to fly, and Harwood Engine 192 was dispatched to the Harwood Ballfield to establish the LZ. Fire personnel assisted EMS with patient care, and packaging the patient. Units went available once the patient was packaged, and in-transit to the LZ. CREWS MAKE QUICK WORK OF DRAGLINE FIRE Monday, December 26,2006- Hazle Twp Fire and Medic 11 dispatched to the Jeddo Coal property in Ebervale for a reported machine on fire. E102 w/ C102(Mumie) enroute with 6 FF's advised that a representative would be awaiting the fire department at the Stockton Rd. entrance. E102 arrived and C102(Mumie) assumed command. C102 then requested additional pages for T-106. E102 arrived to find moderate smoke showing from the Marion 8700 dragline at the very bottom of the pit. Upon investigation, the fire was contained to a small portion of the tub of the dragline. Workers from the coal company had the fire knocked down, however still had a moderate smoke condition inside the tub. C102 w/ 3 FF's entered and investigated further. A small pile of wood, and a small portion of the grease pit were involved and the fire was contained. Crews mopped up with 4 PW's and went available shortly there after. Tanker 106 and Medic 11 staged on the Stockton Rd. Units operated for approximately 45 minutes. UNITS RESPOND TO HAZ-MAT INCIDENT AT WAL-MART Sunday, December 17, 2006- Just before 9am, Hazle Twp Fire along with Harwood Tanker and Medic 11 were dispatched to 87 Airport Rd. at the Wal-Mart for a reported Hazardous Materials incident. C102(Mumie) first on the air, advised by LC911 that they had a report from the manager of the store that they had a white haze coming from a garbage compactor on the "D" side of the building causing irritation to the eyes of employees. C102 requested West Hazleton's Haz-Mat team be dispatched also. First arriving units arrived and began investigating. West Hazleton Haz-Mat arrived and C242(P. Ward), and C243 (Ganc) were suited up and were assigned to monitor the air quality inside the structure. Upon investigation, air quality readings were normal, and there was found to be no hazard. The compactor was moved away from the building, and all units were placed in service. Units operated for approximately 2 hours. T-105 ON THE ASSIST TO VALLEY REGIONAL Sunday, December 17, 2006- At 03:54, Hazle Twp Fire was alerted by Luzerne County 911 to respond to assist Valley Regional Fire at the Wendys on Rt. 309. Valley Regional Chief was assigned to investigate a fire alarm at the location. Upon arrival he found a moderate smoke condition in the building, and requested a full first alarm structure box be dispatched. Initially Truck 105 was dispatched to stand-by in quarters, but due to being crewed right after the initial dispatch, they were requested to respond. T-105 with Lt. 107(Bridge) arrived and set up on the "B" side of the structure. Truck crew split and sent 2 firefighters to the roof, and the rest of the crew to the interior. Upon investigation, it was found the smoke originated from a burned up AC unit on the roof. All units were placed in service after ventilation was complete. Units operated for approximately 1 hour. CREWS TAKE IN WORKING FIRE IN WEST HAZLETON BOROUGH Friday, December 15, 2006- At 15:04, Sta. 10 was assigned to assist West Hazleton at 124 Clay Ave. for a reported structure fire with entrapment. West Hazleton Engine 242 arrived first and reported heavy fire in the 2nd floor "A" side of the building. Engine 102 and Truck 105 arrived and went to work. Engine 102 was instructed to pump the hydrant that E242 laid in from. Truck 105 had the address and began OV work. Engine crew assisted with stretching (1) 1 3/4" handline to the fire room and extinguishing the fire. Truck crew conducted ventilation on all three floors. Crew operated for approximately an hour and a half before being released by C243(Ganc). STA. 10 ASSISTS WEST HAZLETON WITH WORKING COMMERCIAL BUILDING FIRE Monday, December 11, 2006- At 04:02, Hazle Twp Fire was dispatched to assist Sta. 24 (West Hazleton) at 20 Jaycee Dr. The Bemis Corp. for a reported working commercial structure fire. While enroute, units advised that their was a firefighter from West Hazleton on the scene, and the fire was possibly out. E-102 arrived, and was assigned to pump the standpipe at the request of C241(R. Ward). Crews from the Engine and Tower assisted West Hazleton crews with ventilation and checking for extension. Negative extension was found, and ventilation was conducted. Hazle Twp units operated for approximately 1 hour before being released by C241 (R. Ward). Fire was in a photo building in the front of the building. WORKING FIRE IN THE GREEN RIDGE SECTION Saturday, December 9, 2006- AT 14:58 Sta. 10 initially alerted for an Engine Co. to assist West Hazleton Fire on Lincalis St. for a reported garage on fire. Upon signing on, C102 (Mumie) advised LC911 that the 600 Block of Lincalis was going to be in Hazle Twp, and requested West Hazleton also continue to assist. C101 (Kostician) arrived first and assumed command. He reported a double block garage with heavy fire through the roof in the rear of the garage. E102 laid 350' of 5" supply line into the scene. Engine crew stretched a 100' 3" set back line down the alley, and deployed (2) 1 3/4" handlines. Fire was knocked down within 15 minutes, and units operated for approximately 1 hour. The State Police Fire Marshal was called in to investigate the fire. DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY AFTER I-81 CRASH Thursday, December 7, 2006- At 23:27, Hazle Twp Fire and Rescue along with Harwood Fire and Medic 11 dispatched to Rt. 924 and I-81 North for a motor vehicle crash reported as a tractor trailer rolled over with unknown injuries. EMS portable from Nuremberg first to arrive and report a tractor trailer on its side with all occupants out of the vehicle. Vehicle was carrying steel beams. R-101 w/ Lt.107 (Bridge) arrived and assumed command. The truck was located on the Northbound offramp to Rt. 924 at Exit 143. As per PSP, no fire or rescue services were required, and Lt.107 placed all units in service. HTFD TAKES IN WORKING HOUSE FIRE IN THE 1ST DUE Tuesday, October 17,2006- At 02:26, Sta. 10 and Medic 11 along with Harwood Tanker dispatched to 36 Aspen CT. in the Ridgewood section for a reported bedroom on fire. EMS first to arrive, reported fire through the roof. C101(Kostician) first officer to arrive and assume command. Harwood Engine was then requested, along with West Hazleton RIT. E102 was advised to hit the plug at Wedgewood and Aspen and lay in. C101 reported a 2nd floor bedroom well involved, with fire showing on side B. All occupants were out of the residence on arrival of the first in units. Truck 105 took the front, however due to large trees , there was no bucket access. Initial crews found heavy smoke, and high heat on the 2nd floor.A 2 1/2" set back line was stretched to the front door, and (2) 1 3/4" handlines were deployed to the 2nd floor. Fire was knocked down, and extensive salvage and overhaul opeartions were conducted. Units operated for approximately 2 hours. A State Police Fire Marshal was contacted, and is handling the investigation. TRUCK COMPANY ASSIGNED TO BUILDING FIRE IN SUGARLOAF TWP. Saturday, October 14, 2006- Just after 12:30, Truck 105 was assigned to a reported working building fire at 65 Old Berwick Rd. in Sugarloaf Twp. Truck 105 with C101(Kostician) went enroute with 5 personnel on board, and 2 additional personnel on the scene. Truck arrived, and went to work. Initial reports stated possible entrapment in the residence. C102(Mumie) along with 1 additional firefighter had bucket operations, and began OV and roof work. Additional truck crew made entry into the 2nd floor off the front porch roof, and began search and interior ventilation. Fire was knocked down initially with a deck gun off of Sugarloaf E-12, however due to a short supply of water at the onset, it wasn't enough to extinguish the fire. Once entry was made into the 2nd floor, the fire was knocked down with (2) 1 3/4" handlines. Truck crew assisted with ventilation and overhaul, and operated for over an hour on the scene. All searches turned up negative, and the homeowners were not home at the time of the fire. See the Video section for the T-105 dashcam. ENGINE, RESCUE, AND TRUCK ASSIST STA. 24 WITH A REPORTED EXPLOSION IN A RESIDENCE Friday, October 13, 2006- At 12:24, Sta. 10 was dispatched to assist Sta. 24 (West Hazleton) @ 12 South Broad St. for a reported explosion in a residence, with a strong odor of gas in the area. C241 (R.Ward) arrived and assumed command. Engine 102 held the plug at S. Broad St. and Winters Ave. Truck 105 and Rescue 101 staged at the intersection. Upon investigation, units found diesel fuel in the basement, with no apparent explosion. Units operated for approximately 30 minutes, until being released by West Hazleton Command. 1 INJURED AFTER TRACTOR TRAILER ROLLOVER Tuesday, October 9, 2006- Just before 23:00, Hazle Twp Fire and Medic 11 dispatched to I-81 Southbound in the area of MM 141 for the 2nd time today for a reported tractor trailer accident with injuries. R-101 w/ C102(Mumie) arrived to find a tractor trailer on its side off the right hand side of the road. C102(Mume) called command, and reported the occupant out of the vehicle, with what appeared to be minor injuries. Command also reported that the trailer was not carrying any cargo at the time of the crash. The Patient was transported by Medic 11J to HGH Class 2. Units operated for about an hour assisting PSP and the towing service. DEP was also advised of a diesel fuel spill, that they were going to handle. 1 PINNED AFTER VIOLENT ROLLOVER ON I-81 Tuesday, October 9, 2006- At 1354 hours, Sta. 10 and Medic 11 dispatched to I-81 Southbound in the area of MM 141 for a reported vehicle rollover with injuries. While enroute units advised by Luzerne Co. 911 of possibly 1 entrapped, and a vehicle possibly catching fire. C105 (Krone) first to arrive, and call entrapment. E-103 arrived and began stabilizing the vehicle. Crews then began extrication with the Maverick tool. Upon arrival of R-101, the 40" transformers were put into service. Female patient was extricated, and transported by Medic 11H to an awaiting aero-medical unit. The driver of the van was extricated by bystanders prior to FD arrival. He also was transported by a Medic 11 unit to an awaiting aero-medical unit. Harwood Engine established the LZ at the ballfield. Fire crews assisted PSP and the towing service with traffic, until the Interstate was reopened. Units operated for approximately 1 hour. C105(Krone) had command, with C101(Kostician) as safety. |
